ＪＵＮ　ｓｈindig ≪ワールドカップの話≫
Last Tuesday I chose to speak on the World Cup.
I’ve had so much ｆｕｎ watching the game in the past few weeks and as all of you know by now, Italy won the championship against France in an exciting final game.
It was a special experience for me to be in Japan during this time because I was able to be in a countｒy that gets especially excited over the tournament. Although many people do watch the game in the U.S., the level of emotion and enthusiasm does not nearly compare to here.
For the first time since 1982, the semi-finals in the World Cup featured an all European line-up that included Germany, Italy, Portugal and France. Germany ended up winning gold and after last nights finals we found France in second and Italy in first.
As many as 3 billion people have watched the game and it was expected to be the most widely watched program on the planet.
Along with the enthusiasm of the fans and the great numbers of viewers, comes other strong values and emotions.
The World Cup has brought out elements of racism and anger. The game brings out strong feelings of nationalism, memories of political conflict and colonization.
　先週の火曜日に≪Ｗｏｒｌｄ　Ｃｕｐ≫について話しました。この1ヶ月Ｗｏｒｌｄ　Ｃｕｐを見るのは楽しかった。みなさんも、もうすでに知ってらっしゃいますがＩｔａｌｉａがＦｒａｎｃｅをやぶって、ゆうしょうしましたね。
日本でＷｏｒｌｄ　Ｃｕｐをみれたのはすばらしかった。なぜなら日本はＷｏｒｌｄ　Ｃｕｐ　Ｆｅｖｅｒ　すごいからです。Ａｍｅｒｉｃａでもたくさん人がＷｏｒｌｄ　Ｃｕｐを見ますが日本のほうがすっとねつあります。1982年以来初めて、ワールドカップにおける準決勝はドイツ、イタリア、ポルトガル、およびフランスというすべてのヨーロッパのラインアップが参戦しました。
ドイツさきに、決勝にしんしゅつ、そして、最後の夜のセミファイナルで、私たちはフランスとイタリアを見ました。 最大30億人の人がゲームを見ました、そして、それはせかいでもっともたくさんの人のみたプログラムです。 ファンの熱意とビューアーでの観戦の多さは、他の強い感情をもふくんでいるとかんじました。
ワールドカップは人種差別と怒りの要素を持ち出しました。 ゲームは愛国心の強い意見、政治的な対立と植民地化の思い出を持ち出します。
